SQL Marathon

The fourth edition of the SQL Marathon is coming!

Inspired by the programming marathon of the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC), the SQL Marathon aims primarily to attract technical high school students undergraduates, and IT professionals to the field of Databases, specifically to the most important national event in the field – The Brazilian Symposium on Databases (SBBD).

Thus, the competition will measure the participants' ability to solve problems using SQL (Structured Query Language), the standard language for accessing relational databases. For this, a database schema with its instance will be provided. The solutions (queries) will be evaluated for correctness and the number of submissions.

Each team will consist of up to 3 (three) people, with the following possible compositions:

High school level:

  • 2 students currently in high school + 1 undergraduate student, or
  • 3 students currently in high school

College level:

  • 2 undergraduate students + 1 graduate student, or
  • 2 undergraduate students + 1 graduate student, or
  • 3 undergraduate students.

Teams can only use one computer to solve up to six problems in up to six 2.5 hoursEach team is responsible for bringing their own computer. Remember that computers can fail. Therefore, have a backup device.

Teams may use printed books, articles, or manuals. The database management system used in the marathon will be PostgreSQL. Therefore, knowledge of its SQL syntax is necessary.

The classification of the teams will be based on the number of problems solved. The tiebreaker criterion will be the fewest number of submissions. We will have 2 (two) winning teams: high school and college. The winning teams will be those that solve the most problems in the shortest total time for each category (high school and college).

The winning teams will receive exclusive DuckDb gifts and certificates.
