Jayant Haritsa


Jayant R. Haritsa is a professor of database systems in the Supercomputer Education & Research Centre and the Department of Computer Science & Automation at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received the BTech degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Madras), and the MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), and the Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS), and is also a Distinguished Scientist of ACM and a Senior Member of IEEE. He has been on the editorial boards of the TKDE, VLDBJ, JDPD and JRTS journals. He has served as the Program Co-Chair for ICDE 2010 and DASFAA 2008, the Program Vice-Chair for ICDM 2007 and ICDE 2005, the Tutorials Co-Chair for WWW 2010 and DASFAA 2005, the Demo Co-Chair for VLDB 2009, and the Organizational Co-Chair for ICDE 2003. He is a recipient of the Swarnajayanti Fellowship, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize and the Vikram Sarabhai Research Award. Recently, he received the Best Demonstration award in VLDB 2010 for the Picasso software tool.
