Integrity Constraints: from Relational to Graph Models<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Abstract:<\/strong> Veracity is one of the 5 V’s that characterize large databases or Big Data.\u00a0 It refers to the quality of data, which involves its correctness and consistency.\u00a0 Data consistency has always been a concern in the database area, and one way to define it is through integrity constraints.\u00a0\u00a0 The study of integrity constraints is a traditional part of database theory.\u00a0 However, several applications are derived from these studies, such as in the area of data integration and data cleansing.\u00a0 In this talk we will revisit the influence of data models on the definition of integrity constraints to present some applications in these various models.\u00a0 We will start with the traditional concepts of keys and functional dependencies in relational models, moving on to hierarchical models and finishing with proposals for defining these dependencies in graph models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short<\/strong> Bio: <\/strong>Carmem Satie Hara is a professor of the Department of Informatics at Federal University of Parana (UFPR), where she coordinates the Research Group on Data and Information Management (GDAI). She obtained her PhD at the University of Pennsylvania – USA (2004), Master’s degree at the State University of Campinas (1990) and undergraduate degree at the Federal University of Paran\u00e1 (1985).\u00a0 She organized the SBBD 2014 in Curitiba, was coordinator of SBC’s Special Committee on Databases in 2018 and visiting researcher at Universit\u00e9 d’Orl\u00e9ans – France in 2015 and 2022.\u00a0 She has worked on research projects in the areas of integrity constraints, XML data integration and updates, network traffic monitoring using stream data management systems, distributed and sensor data management and graph data management.\u00a0 Currently she participates in the project “Sistema Inteligente de Monitoramento de Esp\u00e9cies Marinhas”, with the Center for Marine Studies at UFPR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
