Originally colonized by European pirates and slave traders, the city of Buzios emerged as a picturesque and peaceful fishing village. Its pristine, serene beauty was a closely guarded secret to most, until a discovery by French star Brigitte Bardot in 1964 popularized the village, transforming it into the spectacular seaside resort it is today. Just two hours away from the city of Rio de Janeiro, Buzios \u2013 which has been nominated as one of the ten most beautiful places in the world \u2013 is a must see. More than a hundred inns and hotels, from the most luxurious to the simplest and smallest, await you, as well as the beautiful white sand beaches (more than 20). Also scattered throughout the area are an abundance of restaurants – Japanese, French, Italian, Moroccan, Thai and Brazilian – and a variety of live music shows, bars, nightclubs and Rua das Pedras in the center of Buzios, which guarantees a bustling nightlife. Local and international boutiques and art galleries, with unique crafts and jewelry, are also a great option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The beaches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As the breathtaking beaches of B\u00fazio are quite isolated from each other, different characteristics make each beach unique, giving it a personality of its own. Manguinhos beach has calm and calming waves that allow many to learn to sail and windsurf. The next beach, Praia de Gerib\u00e1, is a long stretch of land and water, full of surfers, bodyboarders and windsurfers. Ferradura beach, or “Ferradura”, is closer to the city and is the ideal place for snorkeling. The beaches of Jo\u00e3o Fernandes and Jo\u00e3o Fernandinho are the busiest and most popular of all, full of cafes and full of beautiful people showing off their tans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
