SBBD is the official database event of the Brazilian Computer Society\u00a0(SBC). It has been the largest venue in Latin America for\u00a0presentation and discussion of research results in the database\u00a0domain. In its 32st edition, the symposium will be held in the city\u00a0of Uberl\u00e2ndia, in the state of Minas Gerais, on October 2-5, 2017.\u00a0SBBD joins researchers, students and practitioners, from Brazil and\u00a0abroad, for discussing problems related to the main topics in modern\u00a0database technologies.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

GENERAL INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

SBBD 2017 invites submissions of tutorial proposals. Each tutorial\u00a0will be presented in a 3 hours session. Only an abstract (1-2 pages)\u00a0of the accepted tutorials, including bibliographic references, will\u00a0be published in the symposium proceedings. However, copies of the\u00a0presentation slides will also be required before the event for\u00a0distribution to the tutorial attendees.<\/p>\n

We will consider proposals for introductory and advanced tutorials on\u00a0any topic within the area of databases. Introductory tutorials should\u00a0target an audience consisting of advanced undergraduate and graduate\u00a0students, as well as attendees from industry. Hence, they can be\u00a0thought of as “recycling” courses though they should not be about\u00a0traditional “textbook” topics. Advanced tutorials must cover a\u00a0topic’s state-of-the-art, motivating and exposing potential research\u00a0issues.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Proposals must be of no more than 5 pages, using Times New Roman,\u00a012pt font, and must include the following items (in this order):
\n– Tutorial title, authors’ name, affiliations, e-mails and URL of the\u00a0respective home pages (if available)
\n– If the proposed tutorial has been given previously, where this\u00a0tutorial has been presented before and how it will be modified for\u00a0SBBD 2017
\n– Tutorial type (introductory or advanced)
\n– The intended audience and its assumed background
\n– The language in which the tutorial will be presented (English or\u00a0Portuguese)
\n– An abstract (no more the 100 words) stating the tutorial’s main\u00a0goal
\n– Outline of the tutorial (list of topics and brief description of\u00a0how these are to be covered)
\n– List of (up to 10) related references
\n– A brief bio of authors (up to 20 lines\/author)
\n– The name of whom will present the tutorial, in case of a tutorial\u00a0is proposed by more than one author
\n– Audio-visual requirements<\/p>\n

FUNDINGS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Subject to funding availability, SBBD may provide a travel allowance\u00a0for one tutorial presenter. If the presenter requires this funding,\u00a0make sure this is clear in the proposal. The presenting author will\u00a0be required to register for the symposium.<\/p>\n

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Submitted proposals can be written in Portuguese or English.\u00a0Submissions in English are strongly encouraged. Submitted proposals\u00a0will be reviewed based on originality, relevance, technical soundness\u00a0and clarity of presentation. Proposals must be emailed as PDF\u00a0attachments to acs@cin.ufpe.br<\/p>\n

Formats other than PDF will not be accepted.\u00a0The subject of the email must be: [SBBD2017] Tutorial Submission.\u00a0Proposals will be evaluated by the Tutorial Chair and SBBD Steering\u00a0Committee.\u00a0SBBD reserves the right to refuse all of the submitted tutorial\u00a0proposals, as well as to include invited tutorial presentations.<\/p>\n
